Having over thirty years experience in the Operating Suite in New Zealand, Switzerland, England, United States of America and Australia has enabled me to have a very broad background in all facets of the operating room. I have taught orthopaedic and sterilisation technicians and also Peri-operative courses in Australia and Cambodia. Operating Theatre Course
Operating Theatre Fundamentals for Sales Representatives
Designed for:
Beginner nurses working in the operating suite, or those working in third world country operating suites.
Format:
Didactic, group and practical hands on training
Time Frame:
2-3 hours x 25 lessons
Objective:
This in depth course aims to teach operating theatre personnel the skills to ensure safe surgery and is generally undertaken over six months. The first 13 lessons, cover the fundamentals of operating theatre nursing including the history, aseptic technique, cleaning and decontamination, instrument care, disinfection and sterilisation, scrubbing, gowning and gloving, operating table and patient positioning, setting up a surgical trolley, prepping and draping, assisting during surgery, electrosurgery and safety, opening and closing techniques and general instrumentation. Following this there are a further 12 lessons in each specialty covering the equipment and general instrumentation used alongside the common procedures in that field.
